Now I know I'm the only one in the world that does this - get carried away with thoughts. Thank God I've learn to cast those negative thoughts down, and that I have authority to call those things to be not as though there were. I no longer get carried away with my thoughts. I immediately cast down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5). I think on whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things (Philipians 4:8). I have the mind of Christ Jesus. I clothe myself with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh (Romans 13:14). This is my confession.
Now I will say that I have gotten better. Before if there was a "potential problem", I would run every scenario of what could happen, good or bad. The bad thoughts somehow got the most attention. It was to me a defense against hurt and disappointment. I'm not saying you shouldn't think things through, but don't let a negative thought consume you where it is all that you think about; cast it down an speak the Word of God. Sometimes we "give ear", time and way too much attention to a thought that it becomes reality to us, and we began to act on it. Proverbs 4:23 states that we are to keep/guard our hearts with all diligence; for out of it springs the issues of life. In other words, your thoughts will determine your actions. At one time in my life, I had myself convinced that I was the "black sheep" of the family. The enemy and myself had me convinced of this, and nothing could have been further from the truth. I let that thought be planted in my heart, and I distanced myself from my family. I did not keep/guard my heart with all diligence. I should have immediately cast that thought down. This is how relationships are destroyed, like marriages. One spouse gets in their head/heart that the other doesn't love them, or that they are not getting what they need in the marriage. They might not immediately act on those thoughts, but they, the thoughts, are continually there. The spouse continues to allow these thoughts to come in, and before long they begin to seek that which they think they do not have. Now there are situations where spouses are not "playing" their roles, and there are things lacking; that's a whole different blog post - that's where communication come in to play - another blog post. My mom always said 'If you think too long, you'll think wrong.' Cast them down!
Maybe you think 'I'll never get through this problem.' We Christians know things are going to happen, and that in Jesus we can have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! For Jesus has overcome the world (John 16:33). Or maybe you think 'I'm going to get fired from my job.' We Christians are tithers; the windows of Heaven are open, and God is pouring us out blessing we have not room enough to receive - blessed to be a blessing. Not only that, but God is rebuking the devourer for our sake. The enemy can not steal our joy, happiness, health, finance - you name it! WE as children of God, Christians, tithers are blessed people. Only with our eyes shall we behold and see the reward of the wicked ourselves inaccessible - can't touch this! It's a blessing to have a job, amen! It's a blessing to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, it's a blessing to know that you can cast every thought down that exalt itself against the knowledge of Christ, it's a blessing to know that you have the authority to call those things to be not as though they are, it's a blessing to know that you the righteousness of God through Christ Jesus, it's a blessing to know that you are strong in the Lord Jesus and in the power of His might.
Those of this world don't have these blessing, but we Christians do. They might have something that looks like the blessings of the Lord, but they are not lasting. We do not have to "give ear" to the bad/negative thoughts; we can cast them down and speak the Word of God. There's a Word for everything we go through or will ever face in life. My husband, family and friends love me; I am lovable. By the stripes of Jesus, I am healed and every member of my household. I'm the righteousness of God. I am an over comer. I'm on top and not beneath. I put on the Lord Jesus Christ everyday and make no provision for the flesh/carnal mind/thinking, to fulfill its lust (Romans 13:14). Practice casting down bad thoughts; practice makes perfect! Even when you've realized you've "given ear" - repent and speak the Word of God. If what you are thinking about does not line up with or fall into a category of Philipians 4:8 - CAST IT DOWN!
Remember there's a sinner's prayer on this site. If you have back-slid or haven't tasted and seen that the Lord is Good, then say this prayer. You don't have to be in a church building to receive Jesus as Lord and Savior. There is a moment that will happen, and it will happen in a twinkling of an eye (as fast as you can blink), and those who have confessed Jesus as Lord and have walked according to the Word of God will be raptured up to be with Him forever and ever. Yes, it sounds too fantastical to be real, but don't take the chance that it's not and be left behind. So don't put this off. No one knows the hour or the day when this will take place, but it is for us to be ready when it's time to go. The first step is to receive Jesus as Lord and Savior.
